Why I am touched by this documentary?
During my travels through the Mekong Delta I visited places where they had almost never seen a foreigner. Then I was always welcomed first by children. They laughed and were curious, like the children in this film who live along the Mekong River.
It’s touching when filmmaker Chi Mai asks about their future dreams. “I would like to live in a house and go to school,” says one. “I want money to pay off my mother’s debt,” says the other. “I don’t want to get married,” says the latter, “because I’m afraid my husband will beat me when he’s drunk.”
And then they jump happily back into the water.
